Barbecued Chicken

Pikant gegrilltes Hähnchen.

Low Fat

 

1/3 cup plum sauce or sweet-and-sour sauce
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce or catsup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons water
1 1/2 teaspoons sesame seed
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon grated gingerroot
1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder Several dashes bottled hot pepper sauce
1 2 1/2 to 3-pound broiler-fryer chicken, quartered

 

1. For sauce, in a small saucepan combine all of the ingredients except the chicken. Cook over medium heat till bubbly, stirring frequently. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat; set aside.

2. If desired, remove skin from chicken. Rinse chicken; pat dry with paper towels. Place chicken, bone side up, on rack of an uncovered grill. Grill directly over medium coals for 40 to 50 minutes or till chicken is tender and no longer pink, turning once halfway through. During the last 10 minutes of grilling, brush sauce often onto both sides of the chicken. Makes 4 servings.
